How can I be sure that YWC Filtration Systems remove chloramines?
YourWaterCompany is certified to use sophisticated Hach water testing equipment. We use this equipment in our market areas to test for known contaminants and chemicals such as chloramines or MTBE that are potentially harmful. Following an accepted scientific method, YWC can test your water before and after a filter system is installed to guarantee removal results. Commercial systems that are bought at retail have no way of proving their removal or reduction claims.
Do your filtration systems remove fluoride?
YWC systems can remove most of the fluoride in your water – leaving only 1.1 millionth of a gram per liter, a level that is close to the amount naturally occurring in nature. We believe that this low rate of fluoride does not present a health risk for most people. YWC has Reverse Osmosis Systems and activated aluminum cartridges to reduce or remove fluoride.
How do I know if there are contaminants in my water?
All public water systems contain some level of one or more unhealthy chemicals. Regulations only require periodic testing of about 86 of the over 2,100 toxic chemicals known to be in our water. Contaminant levels fluctuate throughout the year depending on both nature and what the water department puts in to make our water "safe".
Will YOUR Water Company install my filtration system?
YWC will be happy to install and service your system or provide components and directions for your personal plumber. We believe that for best results, you should have a professional install and service your system.
How often do I replace my filters, where do I get them, and can I do it myself?
The EPA recommends that water filtration cartridges should be changed at least every 6 months to prevent the growth and release of bacteria in the cartridges. YWC can change/clean/service your system on a regular basis, or recommend someone for you. Each sump comes with a tool (wrench) and instructions on how to install new O-Rings and replacement filters. You can complete these installations yourself if you’re handy.
Are water products EPA approved?
No, the EPA does not approve anyone’s product. An EPA registration number simply means that the product contains something that the EPA determined to be harmful.
Do water treatment products require FDA approval?
No. The performance claims of a filtration system should be validated by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF).
How do filters compare to reverse osmosis or distillation systems?
Reverse osmosis and distillation are non-selective de-mineralizing processes. The water produced by these systems has been stripped of mineral content which causes the water to be acidic. The healthiest water is free from contamination but still contains natural mineral balance. Filtration systems are designed to selectively remove contaminants and allow the natural minerals to pass through.
Are whole house systems (i.e. Point Of Entry) better than Point Of Use systems?
POU systems are the best way to ensure the highest drinking water quality since many water-borne contaminants come from the plumbing in your house, especially lead and vinyl chloride from the piping. Filtering the water at point of use removes contaminants just prior to consumption. POE systems are beneficial in that they provide filtered water to all baths, showers and other water appliances. Most people absorb more water-borne chemicals when bathing than from daily consumption. A combination of POE and POU systems is the optimal solution for the best possible water.
Why would filtered water appear cloudy sometimes?
Occasionally, filtered may appear milky or cloudy. This is generally caused by air pockets in the filter(s). Usually the cloudiness will disappear if the water sits for a minute. Running the water for a couple of minutes will clear the filter.
Can I find out what our municipal water company is putting in our water?
Absolutely. As a result of a federal law that went into effect in 1999, your water utility must send you an Annual Water Quality Report once a year. Look for it in your water bill or visit the web site of your utility company.
